Why not, won’t change anyone’s mind, but nothing ever does

Maybe a Russophile who hasn't been faithful to their propaganda like a religion (I'm talking about those who don't practice a religion in general but I'm not discriminating against a religious person) would stop believing in garbage and propaganda.

This has happened to me before when BritishMormon showed me what the MAGA movement was like (i.e. being corrupt). I was a conservative who was anti this anti that pure right winger who supported Trump without looking at the truth but believed Fox News and Sky News propaganda as well as propaganda from Reel_Polytix9 and Conservatives stream.

Also, I saw an article that should be relevant that according to The Guardian that at the end of the study period, researchers found that some of the Fox News watchers had changed their minds on a range of key issues, including the US response to coronavirus and Democrats’ attitude to police.

Conservatives would probably say those people weren't faithful towards Fox News but I'd say that's only a minor factor into switching to CNN for good.

Interesting. You might be the only person I know on Imgflip who’s changed their minds politically in a significant way, or who at least is open about it.

I came of age politically as an independent/libertarian/Republican type around ‘08, inspired by politicians like John McCain and Ron Paul, but found myself drifting away from the GOP by the time of Trump.

Still, I was someone who didn’t really see Trump as being “all that bad” until the Ukrainegate scandal (Trump’s First Impeachment), which I saw as very Nixonesque and possibly worse.

From there through Trump’s Soleimani assassination, his botched COVID response, his 2020 election denial and of course Jan. 6, the end of his term was nothing but disaster to disaster.

So, Trump not only *was* as bad as all the liberals were saying at the start of his term, he was actually a whole lot worse.

That is my story of How I Was Wrong About Trump. While I’d been fairly independent up until then, I now consider myself a solid Democrat at least until the GOP cleans up its house.

So I guess you were once a GOP supporter but lurched further to the left because of Donald Trump? I guess once the MAGA movement dies and the traditional Republicans go back, maybe you may be considered a Republican again but still never Trump.

I guess if I wasn't an Aussie, there could have been a chance I coulda became a Democrat but Australia actually has a centre-right party called The Liberal Party of Australia.

I’ve always been socially liberal — my viewpoints on economics have evolved a bit in the leftward direction over the past 10 years, but the main thing solidifying me as a Democrat is the total classlessness and contempt for democracy of both Trump and the MAGA movement.

Trump may not be the ‘24 nominee for the GOP due to a whole host of problems, but his replacement will almost certainly be a Trump-lite figure like DeSantis.

I can’t see the post-Trump GOP finding its way back to supporting a McCain or Romney type, or even a Mike Pence, who is about as hard-right as you can go both socially and economically, minus literally rejecting election results. Which makes him, of course, an outcast, along with Liz Cheney.

I reckon because you told me your history of views, I reckon 10 years ago you would have been like Don Chipp who established the Australian Democrats.

This would make me wonder if I should endorse Biden over DeSantis despite me not supporting Biden and his views.

Exactly, but we should join in the fight to make politics more mainstream for everyone otherwise, America would end up like France with their two major political parties.
