Free speech and freedom of the press are bedrocks of a free society. If we wish to protect it, crap like this, knowingly spreading lies needs to come with some seriously harsh penalties.

Don’t politicians take an oath?  they should be prosecuted if the get caught lying. “perjury”. News outlets that are to be taken seriously should be held to the same standard unless specifically made and labeled for entertainment.

That gets pretty tricky. Perjury only applies to lying under oath when you're testifying in a courtroom (or possibly a grand jury).
