To me it feels like the COVID era all over again. Explaining basic concepts (“Wars of aggression are bad!” “Genocide: Even worse!”) over and over to no avail while hundreds of thousands are dying, and the other side’s just not seeing it, or worse, not caring at all.

I’ll commend mainstream Republicans for getting this issue right, and keeping U.S. support for Ukraine mostly bipartisan. But there’s a lot of MAGA folks who aren’t with it.

To be fair, there are also hard-lefties who also insist on seeing America as the Great Satan in this Russia-Ukraine War (even though the U.S. isn’t a belligerent). But these Noam Chomsky/pacifist Left types are well outside the Democratic Party norm, not even a part of it.

(Tulsi Gabbard recently left the Democratic Party in part because of her hard isolationism on Ukraine, in part because her mind has been so saturated by Fox News that she’s now no different, really, than an average MAGA Republican. But that’s another story. Again, not a Democrat anymore.)

The anti-Ukraine far-Right, however, has a firm foothold in the GOP and among Trump supporters specifically. It’s frightening to imagine how a second-term Trump might have reacted to an invasion like this.

For an excellent man/woman on the street perspective from Russia on this I highly recommend watching this, its mind blowing how some answer, especially the older ones and the country side.

I started feeling bad for the average Russian citizen who had no say in any of this, but after seeing some responses. f*** em.

What is the YouTube channel 1420?
One such channel is 1420, where a 21-year-old man named Daniil wanders the streets of Moscow, collecting pedestrians' comments on the news. The channel provides a fascinating chronology of Muscovites' opinions, especially because Daniil posts so often

Interesting.

We also have to remember that the average Russian man/woman on the street has been systematically denied access to any non-propagandistic news sources. A lot of them, we can assume, wouldn't be pro-war if they were given all the facts. They are just parroting a script. It's sad. Russians and Ukrainians had enjoyed friendly relations and cross-border travel for decades, yet relentless pro-war propaganda from the Kremlin has successfully dehumanized Ukrainians within a matter of months.

Very different situation when we consider those in the *West* who are pro-Russia, in spite of having access to world-class analysis that has exposed how transparently bogus Putin's pretexts for invasion were, as well as a growing library of vivid images of the subsequent evidence of Russian war crimes - the massacres, the mass graves, the bombs and missiles flying into maternity wards and playgrounds.

They're very much simping for Russia by choice, and they have no excuses.

A lot of them, we can assume, wouldn't be pro-war if they were given all the facts.""

Thats what I thought for a while. the assumption is incorrect though. watch a few episodes and get back to me.

Spot on about the western ones though. same maga mentality, only applied to Russia instead.

The history books will mark maga as the nazi movement 2.0...
