They don’t acknowledge that a republic is a form of representative democracy.

It's a Federal nation in which 50 pure democracies of various unequal demographic and economic sizes work together to balance their equal status states in order to select leaders who (ostensibly) fairly represent that unique dynamic.

Indeed. Ergo, the Electoral College exists for the national level but not for the state level. Keeps Wyoming and Vermont from being irrelevant, haha.

True, but when voting on federal law, there has to be some give eventually. If two states are all that are needed to break 46-46 senate vote, the populations with less than one million each, shouldn't have the same power as a state with 40million. Or, a state that has eight times their population. I have a hard time seeing this as anything other than the tyranny of the minority.

I recognize the intrinsic flaws with such a system regarding economic law, but social law should be by popular vote as no one loses money over it (fundamentally.)

But through this way? A Wyoming voter has a voting weight of 8.0 While a Californian voter has a voting power of 1.0.

Well in the Senate sure, but that's because it's the chamber where every state is represented as a state.

Whereas in the other half of Congress, California sends 53 representatives to the House compared to Wyoming's 1. So in the chamber of Congress meant to respect demographic power, California has 53 times the power of Wyoming. The idea behind the system is that the nature of each state as its own entity is balanced against the practical reality that some states are way bigger than others.

The system would work way better if we didn't have parties and corporate lobbies funded to the hilt, don't get me wrong, but we place far too much faith in human goodwill if we try to make this a pure democracy of 330 million people. It's far too big to work.

And that's entirely it right there. It is my belief that we should make governmental parties that represent legislative interests as they arise. Social Law : Socially Conservative, Socially Liberal, Socially Progressive, Economic Law (ditto) Foreign Affairs (Ditto) etc, etc. Do away with categorical classifications so that people are required to learn about it instead of having it dumbed down to a two party system. It is entirely vague and doesn't cover every facet of the demographic it represents.

I've often wondered if that would be the practical result of banning parties. Honestly I just think cutting the ability of non-sole proprietor organizations of any sort to make political donations would dramatically reshape the country.

Besides, it's always depressing when one group funnels huge amounts of money into an election in another state. That's always irritated me. Let our system be more state-oriented and that'll take the Senate back to the 'balance state interests' body it should be rather than the largely 'two-party-battleground' it is. I'll concede that the states do NOT generally vote in their own interests these days.

...apparently. Gonna try to avoid the long-winded debates that plagued me this time around. I realize I kept trying to turn a meme stream into a debate forum, which isn't exactly what any of us need from this place haha.

It is what you need it/make it to be. You felt you needed your voice heard. It was heard. You heard opposing viewpoints, disagreed and kept to your convictions. That is awesome. Was sad to see you go.

Well, for better or for worse, I'm back. I don't intend to block anyone and I don't know how often I'll be on (life is busy for us all), but ya'll have to deal with me again. πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘‰πŸ‘‰
