The western media didn't seem to pay much attention to the middle east's human rights abuses of lgbt people before now, the western media is now only making a noise about it now that a big event like the world cup is banning lgbt symbolism.

See, again, what you mean is that the newspapers YOU read didn't mention it to YOU. But Qatar definitely has been the subject of quite high profile scrutiny for quite some time. If YOU didn't hear about it, that's more to do with how YOU'RE getting your information.

I don't read any newspapers. All the major mainstream media outlets such as CNN, NBC, CBS, etc. didn't usually talk about issues in Qatar, mainly issues in America. Allow me to reiterate, the western media didn't mention much about Qatar until a major sports event and the stadium it's being held at caused a controversy.

No, they didn't usually talk about Qatar to YOU when YOU watch it. That's more to do with how YOU'RE getting your information.
