The funny thing is: it can be argued McDaniel isn't even *that* wrong about this. The GA Senate race was close. The PA Senate race was close. The AZ and NV Senate races were close. The WI Senate race was close, and the GOP actually won that one. And wany U.S. House races were close, including some that tipped in the GOP's favor.

But that is also such a silly reading. All historical signs pointed to this being a red wave election. Republicans talked it up, big-time. Now, after-the-fact, it's all expectations-management. Clear sign of a whiff.

Trump personally and Republican policies overall are just plain old unacceptable to a huge slice of the American electorate: equaling about 50%, plus or minus 1%.

But asking the RNC to dispatch with Trump personally, and repudiate Republican policies overall, are two things the RNC is explicitly purpose-built not to do. So, you wind up with rose-colored glasses nonsense like McDaniel's statement, and no real election post-mortem.

Get ready for the next re-run of our calcified politics: 2024!
