As an English teacher, I find the use of the word phobia applied to every dissenting opinion infuriating. If you want to be politically correct it would help to first be grammatically correct but I guess that's none of my business.

You're not wrong, but why must we worsen it by blending together morphemes that don't even make sense?

Oh oh, I know this one: since the 14th of never!

If anyone ever wonders about the prevalence of mental illness among native English speakers, they need look no further than the absolute madness of the language.

Isn't 'homophobia' just a fear of trans-gay-lesbian+ people? Of course, I don't believe in LGBTQ+ hate, but if a quiet opinion is kept, I see no problem.

Everyone loves a good ad hominem attack every now and then. Myself included.

Phobia means an extreme or irrational fear of, intolerance of, or aversion to something. I think it is the extreme aversion/intolerance definition people are meaning when they say transphobia, not a fear of.

Another (and separate) problem is how loosely "phobe" labels are thrown around. Like, calling me a transphobe for saying "I keep asking for a definition of LBGTQ, but I can never get a straight answer" really cheapens the term. If the bar is that low, the word loses meaning. It's like crying wolf. It becomes shorthand for "the person saying this is incredibly brittle". And then what do you call a person who is truly and toxically intolerant? I'm a dick and use poor judgement from time to time, but my trans friends would laugh at me being called transphobic.

That joke seems funny to me. Not sure how it is transphobic.

There is a similar problem with calling people racist.

Therein lies the problem--fear and intolerance are not interchangeable, and it is sometimes useful to differentiate them and problematic when they're lumped together.

I'd try fellatio but I'm afraid I'd suck at it.

I didn’t invent the English language 😔

When I find a woman is familiarized with Phil A. Tio make sure to acquaint them with Colonel Angus.
