You must not care about the Ukrainian children who are being abducted, smuggled across the border, and forced to be raised as Russian. Or the Ukrainian teens whose destination is a Russian brothel.
You must not care that many of them have been orphaned or indeed killed themselves by Russian missiles that accidentally(?) hit playgrounds and hospitals and, yes, churches.
You must not care that Patriarch Kirill of the Moscow Patriarchate has been one of Putin's most loyal servants in the project of shrouding this unholy imperalist war in a mist of religiosity: the better to dupe the average Russian conscript who's been ripped from their home, their village, and their family, and (yes) their church in order to serve as "single-use soldiers" and cannon-fodder to pack the muddy WWI-style trenches that now criss-cross Eastern Ukraine.
Well, none of that happened in Ukraine during peacetime, which is why Russian- and Moscow-linked Orthodox churches survived and even thrived in Ukraine while peace prevailed between the nations.
Well. No longer.
So, if you're looking for someone to blame for the expanding rupture in religious ties between Ukraine and Russia, I suggest you look no further than the architect of this war.
Do you know who that is?
