Russian Orthodox Church pro-Ukraine War | image tagged in russian orthodox church pro-ukraine war | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
The Russian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate in particular) is a propaganda arm of the Kremlin and has been beating the pro-war drum relentlessly. A move like this is overdue.

You're mistaken if you believe "religious liberty" applies when your sect is working to destroy the country itself. That transforms the "church" into a political organization at least, a terrorist organization at worst.

Chalk this up to a sad illustration of how the most sacred things in life can get sullied by war.

Thumping a Qu'ran doesn't give you the right to fly planes into buildings, as everyone learned, or should have learned, in the 2000s.

Fast-forward to the 2020's: thumping a Bible of any kind (in this case, a Very Russian Orthodox Bible) doesn't give you the right to fire missiles indiscriminately at playgrounds, hospitals, and churches.

This is very common-sense stuff. Freedom of worship means freedom of worship, that's it. If your sect has lost interest in the business of worship and has instead intermingled itself with the business of war, different rules apply.

Have you read the Quran or know much about orthodox Christianity? It’s like defending/arguing a book and ppl don’t know what it teaches.

And I'm sure your reaction would be identical if Bush Jr banned the Sunni branch of Islam over their support for the wrong side in Iraq. Or if Trump banned Shia mosques for their support of the wrong side in our intervention in the Syrian war. Or if Biden banned all political parties that didn't support his with Russia.
Wait... strike that last one.
Zelensky isn't banning an entire religion because some of their churches are aiding the enemy anymore than he banned every other political party because some of their candidates are Russian. He's a dicktator consolidating power.

Lol. I'm certain "same-sex marriage" has nothing to do with the Ukrainian government's decisions. This battle in the culture war is simply irrelevant in the face of an actual one.

The Russian Orthodox Church has a bright future ahead of itself as a Kremlin regime handmaiden within Russia's own borders. But this is just another way that this war is causing Russia to forfeit a lot of its reputation and soft-power abroad, particularly in the country whose children it's actively shelling.

There's no reason to ban a church, or a mosque, or any other house of worship where folks are minding their own business.

But churches whose leaders dabble in terrorism and child rape should certainly lose tax-exemption, at the very least, if not be broken up outright - because at that point they're no longer acting as churches, they're serving as hubs for human trafficking and murder.

Using religious garb to hide the devil's work is the most disgusting thing imaginable, and there's no reason taxpayers should subsidize or even tolerate that.

Freedom of worship means freedom of worship, it doesn't mean providing a safe-harbor for pedophiles and psychos to enrich themselves and plot violent fantasies.

You must not care about the Ukrainian children who are being abducted, smuggled across the border, and forced to be raised as Russian. Or the Ukrainian teens whose destination is a Russian brothel.

You must not care that many of them have been orphaned or indeed killed themselves by Russian missiles that accidentally(?) hit playgrounds and hospitals and, yes, churches.

You must not care that Patriarch Kirill of the Moscow Patriarchate has been one of Putin's most loyal servants in the project of shrouding this unholy imperalist war in a mist of religiosity: the better to dupe the average Russian conscript who's been ripped from their home, their village, and their family, and (yes) their church in order to serve as "single-use soldiers" and cannon-fodder to pack the muddy WWI-style trenches that now criss-cross Eastern Ukraine.

Well, none of that happened in Ukraine during peacetime, which is why Russian- and Moscow-linked Orthodox churches survived and even thrived in Ukraine while peace prevailed between the nations.

Well. No longer.

So, if you're looking for someone to blame for the expanding rupture in religious ties between Ukraine and Russia, I suggest you look no further than the architect of this war.

Do you know who that is?

You are missing the context. Purposefully or not, I can't know. You'd rather file away all the human suffering under the heading of "cringe," where it can live in a box that doesn't trouble you, so you can stoke your selective outrage about "religious freedom."

But if you wish to only examine the religious angle, consider this: Pious people are being killed. Churches are being bombed. Long-standing international religious ties between the two nations are fraying and snapping. People are losing their faith, as always happens when confronted by the atrocities of war.

Don't question Zelensky or his nazi army or you'll be labeled a "rAcIst".
Lol.

Bullshit.
The Ukrainian Orthodox church is obviously linked to the Russian orthodox church. But that's like saying the Ukrainian Orthodox church is linked to the Roman Catholic church. True, but irrelevant.
Your dicktator hero showed his true colors a little early, normally the world's Mao Zedongs act like freedom fighters til their power is absolute. Zelensky jumped the gun here, but he'll get away with it since the Republican's have shown no real interest in curbing military spending. See: any spending bill passed in the last year.
But it's always interesting to confirm the true character of the dicktator's the left loves so much.

It's a misleading name. The entity that was banned is an arm of the Russian Orthodox Church calling itself the "Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate." [UOC-MP]

Of course there's confusion - deliberately so. Hardline Russians have wanted to rule Ukraine in every aspect for hundreds of years, including religious. So, why not have a "Ukrainian Orthodox Church" based in Moscow? It's entirely sympatico with Russian imperialism.

But, there is an actual Ukrainian Orthodox Church [UOC] that doesn't take orders from Moscow, and it's not the subject of any ban. Not in Ukraine, anyway - but certainly look to see any adherents of the UOC stomped on by Russia if they find themselves on the wrong side of the border.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orthodox_Church_of_Ukraine

This is a sad example of how warfare frays international ties and cooperation, including in religious life. But the idea the President of Ukraine is against Orthodoxy in a country that is mostly Orthodox is silly.

Ah. I still don't think it's the right thing to do, it sounds very similar to the 19th-century arguments against catholicism.
