I don’t know how many Christians subscribe to “rapture” thinking in Australia, but in America (especially in certain regions) it’s quite common.
I don’t like how that story partitions the world into two classes, one of which will be saved and the other won’t be. It encourages sectarianism.
I’m disgusted by certain stories in the Bible (the flood chief among them) in which human life is treated carelessly. It leads to toxic thinking and behavior, like failing to care for others (especially others of a different faith), and failing to care for the planet upon the mistaken belief that God will do it (or, on the other hand, simply end it) for us.
I believe human life and the planet are more valuable, and our obligations to one other can’t be shoved off so easily.
The teachings of Jesus on the other hand, the moral and spiritual guidance, that to me represents the best of Christianity.
