I KNOW that's not true because every company I've ever worked for collects what you're calling "identity" data so they can submit evidence to the Department of Labor that they're complying with employment law.
If you're NOT doing that, then they'd have had shut you down as an employer a long time ago.

Nobody said anything about buying you off. That data is to prove you're not doing something illegal like discrimination.
