Nicolas of Myra was a Turkish bishop. He is the patron saint of sailors, travelers, bakers, merchants, thieves & children. December
6 is the day the church devotes to him; he was
beheaded that day due to his violent behavior. When the church couldn't stop Europeans from exchanging presents in winter, it was decided to connect this saint to the elf king in charge of the gifts.
As the name "Saint Nicolas" was passed through various
languages, it eventually changed into "Santa Claus."
