Troll of the Day: Donald Trump

Troll of the Day: Donald Trump | Trump has Jewish family! Trump moved the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem! This scandal is nothing! Stop calling him an anti-Semite!! Trump excused the neo-Nazis who rioted at Charlottesville in 2017 as "very fine people." That same faction of hard-right Trump supporters heard the message that political violence was okay, and turned up later to support his violent coup attempt on Jan. 6, 2021. Numerous statements by Trump throughout the years have played into anti-Semitic tropes, including that Jews "have a lot of money," and that American Jews aren't fully American, as he has accused this group of "disloyalty" to Israel (even though they are, again, American). Trump's own "support" of Israel is a function of his support for the authoritarian leader Netanyahu and his divisive hardline policies: not the country of Israel as a whole, which is racially and religiously diverse and includes both liberal Israelis and Arabs, as well as many competing viewpoints on the topic of Palestine. Most recently, Trump met with a newly anti-Semitic Kanye West, who brought along longtime white nationalist provocateur Nick Fuentes. Trump denied knowledge that Nick Fuentes was coming to the dinner, but even after the backlash, Trump has still refused to outright condemn Nick Fuentes. Why? Because Trump has a cult following of anti-Semites and knows it. And why do anti-Semites support Trump?
