Images of demons on old buildings are mistakenly
called gargoyles, but they are really grotesques.
They are only gargoyles if they channel water. This rain-draining architecture is named after Gargouille, the dragon that lived in the Seine River. It attacked by sucking up water, then spitting it out in a powerful stream.
