The bag of books next to the stairs IS WILL be donated?‍?

its a mistype, now: the bag of books next to the stairs_____ will be donated to the children. what it is suppose to be the bag of books are next to the stairs, ((a) is, (b) will) be donated to the children.

This makes as much sense as my college work's instructions.

Which in short: Make zero sense.

Neither one makes sense

And are will be donated is any better???

"The bag of books" is plural🤓

Bag is a singular noun. Of books is telling is what's in the bag. It wouldn't be, "The bag of books are gonna be donated." Instead it would be, "The bag of books is gonna be donated." In the sentence, bag is the collective noun. You wouldn't say, "The group of dogs are coming," but instead it would be, " The group of dogs IS coming." However, if the collective noun was plural, it would be "are".
