Checking up on our favorite free speech champion! Muskophobia | Elon Musk took the helm of Twitter promising to make it safe for comedy and free speech, and to be politically fair. Less than two weeks in, he banned a liberal comedian for tweeting political satire, and urged followers to vote for Republicans - the first time a major social media boss has ever endorsed a party. | image tagged in elon musk twitter, elon musk, twitter, free speech, hypocrisy, social media is harder than rocket ships apparently | made w/ Imgflip meme maker

TOS violation, sucks to suck at reading lol

He’s just helping fortify the election. That’s ok to do remember. He just needs to dump $400m like mark did to add the cherry

Kathy Griffin is a dumbass. A professional troll.

And yet: Dumbasses should be allowed to speak, too, and suffer whatever consequences come. At least, that is the theory behind the free speech maximalism that Musk appears to be staking so much on.

Impersonation is cringe, it provides a justification for the suspension here, and I don't think someone can realistically expect to get away with it for long particularly when you're impersonating the damn owner of Twitter. And yet, Griffin wasn't spewing hate speech. She wasn't retweeting a severed head. She was making political points about women's rights and those sorts of things, on the eve of a major election.

By banning Griffin, Musk made her into a free speech martyr and inevitably made her trolling a bigger story than it otherwise would have been. Griffin is gone, for now, but in managing moderation issues like this without coming off as a hypocrite, Musk's problems are just getting started.

Maybe that comedian should know how to mark their tweets as a parody when they do a parody... LOL

Yes… let’s mandate how comedians should do their jobs… that’s definitely free speech… OOPS

Yes... Comedians are above the rules... OOPS

I’m so glad you have now accepted the idea that rules govern speech for the first time in your life.

That doesn’t answer the question: “is this a *good* rule?”

Eh. I could go either way on that. Regardless, both you and Musk have been exposed as free-speech hypocrites, and that’s enough for me.

Yes... it's so hard for a stupid comedian to know how to mark a tweet as a parody... Got it...

It’s a frivolous rule, with a heavy-handed punishment applied after the rule was announced, but okay.

Now do the rule on hate speech

Do you think I'm going to fall for your trolling?

Yes... 15 million new downloads of Twitter over the past couple weeks, as it's been a front-page news item relentlessly over Musk's antics.

Now Elon just has to figure out a way to profit... *does math*... $600,000 off of each new user, and he'll be in the black

Nope, I don't think you'll ever concede an inch to common-sense.

Is the n-word hate speech?
