It's Saturday. You get off the bus to go to the math competition at the school across town that you've never been to before.
As you make your way with your group the teacher warns you not to wonder off, but you don't really hear her. Something about this place feels familiar, but you know you've never been here before. You think it's just that "all schools look at least a little similar" vibe and shake it off to nerves. This is your first district competition afterall.
As you pass some hallways you notice the lights are off since there's no classes in session. You see the cafeteria down the main hall illuminated with groups of students waiting for the competition to begin.
As you walk by these hallways with your group though the feeling returns. Suddenly you see the shadow of something move in the hall nearby. A student? A staff member? . . . A predator? You take a few steps down the hall and away from your group to make sure it's not the worst. This would certainly be a prime target afterall.
While you're making your detour though a sudden chill washes over you, as if you've just stepped out into a tundra from the safety of a warm cabin. You remember the reason you're here and that you need to get back to your group. Now. You turn to go back where you came from and. . . there's nothing but the same hallway, stretching out as far as you can see. In the distance the red glow of the EXIT sign hovering ominously.
You turn to face the other direction again, but all you see is the same thing. A long, dark hallway, an EXIT sign, and nothing. You run down the hallway for the exit, but it never seems to get any closer, you try running faster, but it just moves faster away. You stop to catch your breath and turn around again. . . The exit sign in the other direction is just as far away as it was before you ever started running.
Panic begins to set in as the full realization of your situation hits you for the first time. Just then you hear a classroom door behind you open. The chill from earlier returns, stronger than before. You close your eyes as you hear the door shut again, too afraid to even turn around and see what's awaiting behind you.
"Run." It speaks. You oblige.
