i dont know if im a bit of a noob for this but how do you get elytra first? dont you have to beat the dragon to get the end gateway?

bridge away from center island until you reach the ancient cities, this takes a lot of blocks tho so yeah just beat the dragon first in my experience it takes about the same preparation (getting netherite armor is PAIN if i get hit by a ghast one more time i will lose it)
