Ok according to that article in 2020, the DoE wanted to fill up the SPR (strategic petroleum reserve)...which if my calculations are correct, was already ~90% full at the time.

Interestingly enough, a few years prior to ^that, trump wanted to sell off half of the SPR over a 10 year period... Conservative think tank, The Heritage Foundation, took it a step further and wanted to deplete the entire SPR.... Yes. The entire thing.

Glad nobody followed the advice of the Heritage Foundation!

Nobody may have followed their advice that time.... But they are actually quite influential.

At least 2 of the 3 justices that trump put on the US supreme court were people the Heritage Foundation picked. (Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney B.... not sure about Gorsuch though). Trump even cited the Heritage Foundation specifically as a group which influenced him regarding that.

Also I'm not entirely sure that they didn't influence him regarding the SPR.,... Trump may have wanted to drain it in half based on them wanting to drain it entirely.

In any case it's funny to see conservatives crying about Biden wanting to drain it to ease pricing pressure on Americans, meanwhile republicans also wanted to drain it 4 years ago...regardless of what the price of gas was at the time.

Yep... you know! Both parties pass ideas back and forth. Then it's hilarious to see the exact same policy be a good idea when "my guy" does it after a major REEEE when "their guy" tried to do it just a short while ago.
