America's whiplash electorate.

America's whiplash electorate. | In 2008, Americans elected Barack Obama because they desperately wanted change. Two years later, they elected a Tea Party Congress to stop Obama’s changes. Then, in 2012, they reelected Obama to stop the Tea Party Congress. Two years after that, they expanded the Republican House majority to check Obama. In 2016, they elected Donald Trump to stop everybody. In 2018, they elected a Democratic majority to stop Trump. In 2020, they chose ideological consistency by electing Joe Biden. A year later, they revolted at the polls by choosing Republicans in state and local elections because they wanted to constrain Biden. If Republicans win Congress in the 2022 midterms, it's par for the course. So what? History suggests that if anything, a Republican Congress will put Democrats in an even better position for 2024. | image tagged in usa divided, america, politics, elections, midterms, republicans | made w/ Imgflip meme maker

If the republicans take Congress they'll have the power to ensure there's never another Democratic President. (I'm not talking just legal power.)

There’s a rub with that plan — if a Republican House refuses to certify a Democratic Presidential winner, then the current Democratic President can just tell them to f**k off, and sit for the Inauguration anyway.

Constitutional crisis? Absolutely. Civil War? Perhaps. But after the 2020 election lies & Jan. 6 experience, I don’t see Democrats just shrugging their shoulders and saying “welp, y’all beat us.”

But when they're trying, and in some cases succeeding, to put insurrectionists in charge of the voting, it'll be 100 times worse if they win. It'll be like putin dissolving the Russian parliament & putin his supporters in, who then vote him term extensions.

"... and PUTTING his followers...", not "putin his followers". lol

I can easily see many Democrats not so much shrugging their shoulders and saying “welp, y’all beat us,” but rather wringing their hands and saying "there's nothing we can do, the republicans are angry" while they mainline Maalox. I hope I'm very wrong.

Don't get me wrong. Of course I'd love to see Democrats defy historical gravity and retain the House and Senate - since if they don't, nothing meaningful will be passed in the next 2 years, and Republicans will use their power to grandstand, shutting down critical investigations like the Jan. 6 panel in favor of delivering political catnip to their base in the form of Hunter Biden investigations and even a possible groundless Biden impeachment, possibly even shutting down the government with more debt-ceiling baloney.

But if Republicans retake Congress and get up to their usual nonsense, then they'll be in the spotlight again when the much more important 2024 election rolls around. They'll have a record to defend, which they've consistently been horrible at doing.
