If I commit a crime against against someone and call them a jerk, then it's not a hate crime. If I call them by some derrogatory racial word it is a hate crime.
Aside from all crime being motivated by a lack of love and empathy for another person, why is one derrogatory word a hate crime but the other isn't? It makes no sense.
What if I commit a crime and call a person by a racial slur but there is nothing in any other part of my like that would make me a racist then was it a hate crime?
What if I was some guy high up in the KKK and committed a crime against a person not of my race but never said a bad word against the person during the crime, is that a hate crime.
