In Iran, at least 41 people have been killed in a series of escalating protests demanding justice for a 22-year-old Kurdish woman named Mahsa Amini, who died in the custody of Iran’s so-called morality police. The Norway-based group Iran Human Rights has put the death toll at 57, with hundreds arrested over the past 10 days. On Saturday, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi vowed to “decisively” crack down on the protests. Solidarity rallies were also held across the globe this weekend. In Iraq, dozens of Iraqi
and Iranian Kurds rallied Saturday to protest the death of Mahsa Amini. Naman Ismaili: “They killed Mahsa Amini because of a piece of hair coming out from her hijab. The youth is asking for freedom. They are asking for rights for all the people, because everyone has the right to have dignity and freedom. The youth, the 15- and 16-year-olds, are asking for rights and freedom, but they kill us. They do not
have a conscience, no humanity. They are killing immediately.”
