you are basically right except that the protected nucleic acid helix (DNA or RNA, depending on which virus it is) is made of building blocks called nucleotides. amino acids are the building blocks of the proteins that make up the coat ( :

A clarification -- it's been a while since I calculated this. The virus itself is 28 million times the volume of a CO2 molecule. However, the virus doesn't travel on it's own, but via water droplets which are 28 billion times the volume of the CO2.
