yeah, fascism is the enemy of liberty and should be abhorred just like communism among liberty-minded people. Allende was no saint, but I don't support Pinochet either. And I absolutely despise retаrded rednecks with Confederate flags. It was never about "state's rights" at all, except state's "rights" to allow slavery. Would they support enslaving a fellow human being and using him as chattel? Because that's what the Confederate flag stands for!
The following are quotes by George Fitzhugh, often described as a proto-fascist. These were not a minority view among the Confederate citizenry! (Note that I'm not trying to make the ridiculous claim that the Confederacy ever had a socialist form of government. If anything, the "socialism" he espouses is similar to that promulgated by Hitler and Mussolini. This is in the early days of socialist thought, only two decades after Marx published the Communist Manifesto. "Socialism" did not always mean Marxist left-wing thought as it does today.)
"Private property destroys liberty and equality."
"Liberty is an evil which government is intended to correct. This is the sole object of government."
"All concur that free society is a failure. We slaveholders say you must recur to domestic slavery, the oldest, the best and most common form of Socialism. The new schools of Socialism promise something better, but admit, to obtain that something, they must first destroy and eradicate man’s human nature."
"Slavery relieves our slaves of these cares altogether, and slavery is a form, and the very best form, of socialism."
"Liberty of the press, liberty of speech, freedom of religion, or rather freedom from religion, and the unlimited right of private judgement have borne no good fruit, and many bad ones."
