Three things:
1. Gandalf (the stranger) arrives too early. Gandalf actually arrives in middle earth in the third age, but rings of power is set in the second age. Read the history of middle earth.
2. Who the hell is halbrand?
3. Celeborn is DEAD?!?!
(Although tbh, it was nice that they mentioned glorfindel)

I'm not sure that the stranger is Gandalf. I was really hoping that he was Tom Bombadil . . . but probably not.

It could be anyone really. But remember at the end of the series he said "the air smells less foul, always follow your nose"? That's a gandalf quote from lord of the rings isn't it? They would have used some of the same quotes from lord of the rings to give the audience clues (according to my dad).

That was such an obvious quote, I was kind of hoping it was a red herring.

I never watched, but it doesn’t follow canon

In what exact way does it not? The Silmarillion doesn't give a ton of detail about Eregion and it's inner workings, or about Khazad-dum. It's kind of the perfect place in the canon to add a non-canon violating fic. I hope we get to see Narvi and the crafting of the great doors of Moria in this show, but . . . who knows?

Have you read the silmarillion?

Yes. I can never quite keep track of all the Noldor, though.

Reread through lotr and reread the silmarillion

What is the non-canon aspect of the show that bothers you? They've definitely made Galadriel more warlike, but that is only a shift in emphasis, since she was definitely one of the drivers of the Noldor mission from the beginning, and in the Second Age she would have been the only person of her generation left, so presumably all the more important.

The fall of numenor at the same time as the forging of the rings of power?

I imagine they're using the same logic for that as they did in the movies, when they collapsed the timeline of Frodo's getting the Ring and then setting out. The pacing of events in a chronicle and in a visual medium like film is necessarily different.

I think they shouldn’t have done that

it compresses the timeline immensely, plus elrond's and the black elf's hairstyles

Rings of power is terribly innacurate

Yes, but less so than Jackson's Hobbit films in some ways. I'm thinking of it as fan fiction, rather than as a completely faithful adaptation.
