I find it surprising that Sonic is thriving as a movie franchise given that the game series hasn't been popular since the 90s, the most recent games in the series have been rather disappointing and the original design of Sonic in the movie was the center of controversy. I was a Sonic fan in late elementary school and early highschool, I stopped being a Sonic fan later in highschool but after seeing both Sonic movies, I was very impressed and I'm looking forward to the 3rd movie. The movies aren't just popular with Sonic fans, even people in general like these movies. Disney's recent movies such as Lightyear, the live action Pinocchio remake and the trailer for the live action Little Mermaid remake (1.5 million YouTube dislikes) aren't well-received. Also many things do get old, even popular things like Disney. The problem with Lightyear is that Buzz Lightyear not like his counterpart in Toy Story and it's not a very good storyline, the live action Pinocchio remake has very off-looking animation and The Little Mermaid trailer doesn't only have an actress that doesn't look like Ariel, it also has rather dark undertones. The movies also have elements that are of 'woke' partisan political signaling that people find a bit unnecessary such as a lesbian couple being crowbarred in Lightyear and Ariel being played by a black actress. The Sonic movies however just have what Paramount knows Sonic fans like, elements of the Sonic series that fans love and no wokeness. Paramount even listens to constructive criticism and fixes what fans don't like such as Sonic's design.
