Honestly, in anime, you're either good or bad. It doesn't matter if the "good guys," have flaws or the "bad guys" have standards, you're either good or bad. I made a villain in a made-up show and she's evil towards her enemies but nice towards her allies. And she has standards. And, unlike in anime, the main characters see the good in her.

In a good show, good guys are almost never one-dimensional good and villains are rarely pure evil, heroes have flaws and villains usually have SOME sort of standards, anime often has clearly demarcated "good guys" and "bad guys" no matter what, even those which claim to be more nuanced will usually have the good guys, if not perfect saints, have little to no flaws and make all the villains irredeemable monsters while justifying morally questionable actions by the "heroes" instead of presenting them as moral flaws.
