Is there a way for websites to know when their content is being hotlinked¿

1) traffic volume spikes on a dashboard
2) data analytics
3) see if it should be upvoted
4) flip a coin

TBH not sure, but unusual site activity gets noticed and adjustments are made. I don't get to go in the back room, just hear about some stuff after the fact.
