Thing about living most of your life in a low-income area is that you see the reality of poverty, and especially how much of it is the result of poor spending habits.
I've rarely ever met someone living paycheck-to-paycheck who didn't have a long list of stupid and unnecessary purchases taking up large portions of their income, either directly or resulting monthly finance payments
This kind of thing is largely the same.
It all adds up and those few dollars a day add up to a hell of a lot over the course of a year(s)
