I think the tail should be moved a bit to the left, imo it looks like it comes from the side of the character

it's still good to move it, defining where things are definitively helps make things look correct and helps decide how you want things post-sketch

Yeah, my main problem with moving it is it’s on the same layer as the main body, I would have to copy it.

use lasso tool to select it and move it, or select it with lasso and copy and paste it to a new layer
