Right-libertarianism is, basically, a philosophy of freedom for straight white guys.
What I mean by that is that Right-Libertarians’ conception of freedom is all over the map, as scrambled as the two major parties — the kinds of freedoms they care about happen to intersect perfectly with this group’s particular concerns.
To wit:
—Guns? (Hell yeah! Who cares about mass shootings? If *I* have a gun then *I’ll* feel protected.)
—Abortion? (Nah, no uterus here; we don’t really need that one.)
—Taxes? (Well, I’m doing okay economically and don’t need any government assistance. So: Taxation is theft!!!)
—LGBTQ rights? (Well, sure, maybe, but… do they have to be so *gay* about it? *Recites “groomer” propaganda, votes Republican*)
—Face masks/vaccines? (Well, I’m a young healthy guy, I don’t need protection, so I’m going to oppose every kind of public health mandate that could protect others.)
—The right to universal healthcare? (Again: young/healthy/male, a low-order priority)
—Reparations to compensate the descendants of slaves for state-sanctioned forced labor? What ought to be a winning issue from a pure libertarian perspective if there ever was one? (GTFO!!!!)
Rights for the poor and vulnerable are completely discounted.
