I grew up watching friends. My mom used it as a teaching tool about different adult concepts because the characters were so diverse and she'd say things like "do you want to be a Ross or a Joey when you grow up". It was very informative and effective.
That being said watching it today is like pulling teeth, but occasionally the dentist tells a joke. It definitely did not age well. I could see a modern reboot with a more diverse cast and better overall pacing doing well though.
