Alright this isn't a meme, but I was listening to a Half-Life song earlier and though about a short story I could build off it, so I'm posting it here to save it, hope you enjoy. It's a cold night at a resistance base that sits far out
in the middle of the wasteland,
we are far from any city,
but the citadel is still visible over the dark sky,
a reminder that we might be free for now
but so many others are still trapped,
the combine will come for you eventually
and you will have to leave everything behind,
you and few other rebels sit around a fire,
telling legends of "The One Free-Man"
you have never heard of him before,
but according to the Vortigaunts
he will return some day to free us all. They tell you he was a survivor of the black mesa incident,
he outsmarted the might of the US military,
he fought through alien horrors that no man should ever witness,
he freed and entire race from their oppressor,
an older man overhears your conversation,
says he was there to witness this Gordon Freeman in person,
he would have been dead if not for him,
one other rebel claims to have caught a glimpse of him before,
describing him as a mystical warrior clad in orange and grey,
with the resistance's logo on his chest,
lenses that shimmer in the moonlight,
but nobody else believes him,
they say he was just hallucinating
from drinking the combine's polluted water. Some say he will never return.
Some say he is already out there waiting.
Some say he is already dead.
Some say he has is still fighting for our hopes.
Some say he was never real.
Some say he secretly steers us.
Some say he can't free us.
Some say he has already won. You begin to think about all this...
Is there really a prophesized hero
out there coming to save us?
Or is this just another hoax to distract us
from the fact we are only fighting for time
before we are all dead or no longer human,
time has passed so quickly,
the sun is already rising and you hear
a transmission on your radio for the first time since you got here,
finally other rebels to talk to,
they fill you in that Nova Prospekt has been destroyed,
by none other than the man of the legend.
He is currently in the city rallying citizens for the final uprising,
preparing to head to the city and support your savior, you all gear up,
grabbing your rifles, ammo and medkits,
it's time to cure humanity of the plague brought by The Combine
and begin the Triage at Dawn.
