It's kind of like pointing to past liberals and saying that they would be classed as the far right today.. context and situation have to apply, especially when it changes drastically and things became far less reasonable on the other side.
For example, the lefts continued issue with people owning guns made conservatives more pro-gun, and the lefts demand for abortions at all stages of pregnancy made the conservatives more anti-abortion, so the question is : Would reagan support 6 month abortions or call ar-15's 'weapons of war?' or would he be more on the current conservative side as pushback to it?
