Some scientists predicted global cooling and they were wrong.
Other scientists predicted global warming… and they were right!
That’s the simple version. The slightly longer version is that for a couple decades, global temperatures weren’t rising quite as quickly as predicted, leading some scientists to speculate that there was another phenomenon at work that was cooling the planet down.
It turns out there wasn’t actually anything pulling in the other direction, global warming just took a brief pause for unknown reasons.
However, some media outlets took the story and ran with it, publishing sensational covers about “global cooling” that turned out to be dead wrong. And now here we are, 40 years later debating that same kerfuffle when the data have long since moved on.
Your take is an interesting one during a week when temperature records are being smashed around the globe and forest fires are raging.
There is no real difference between the terms global warming and climate change. Both are true. The world is warming and climates are changing as a result.
