The progressive tends to be naive and simplistic, thinking that the politician is true to his speech. Without seeing the details, he usually has nothing to do with the real intentions of the ruling class with his speech and actions.
The conservative has seen enough of this, he has been through many disappointments, he does not see the speech but the details, he focuses on the small print, on the psychological aspects and on the usual motives such as following the trail of money and power.
