Supposition #1: Somethingness exists. Evidence: Differentiation requires the existence of no less than 2 things. Nothingness requires the existence of exactly 0 things. Something can be proven to exist by citing the question "does something exist?" as asking the question implies its opposite. This duality is in itself enough to preclude it from being the absence of something.
Supposition #2: Somethingness cannot come out of nothingness. Evidence: The 1st Law of thermodynamics.
Conclusion: Because somethingness could not come from nothingness, somethingness is eternal and nothingness was never a possibility.

The conclusion should read Because something exists and somethingness cannot come from nothingness, somethingness is eternal and nothingness was never a possibility.

As for what consciousness is, there's a meaty subject--and at this point in history also quite practical as an electronic subject as well.
