I thought that the Illinois Governor's comments were a hoot - he said something to the effect that the soldiers that fought the revolution carried muskets, not "assault weapons". Hello - muskets were the "assault weapons" of their time.
That's like saying if we want to practice the first amendment then we should only use the technology that was available in 1791 - you know, like gathering in the town square and using the Guttenberg printing press - no internet, phones, radio, TV, recorded music, or movies.
