The Constitution establishes none of that. It does give people in each state the right to decide what is best for them. It also guarentees your right to freely leave any state for another state, presumably more to your liking. It is a far better system than most - if not all - governmental system allowing individual freedoms.

And yet the republicans still feel the need to oppress the citizens of their states by burning and banning history books. Allowing mentally disturbed folks to own guns , and as is the case in New York, which a law that the people of New York voted for to keep folks running around with guns , the gop extremists on the Supreme Court decided that the people of the states just aren’t smart enough to have their own gun laws.

There is so much here to unwind, I applaud the depth of your beliefs. If people are burning books, while I think it stupid, it's their books. If school boards and library boards decide to 'ban' or discontinue the use of certain books, that is their job. They are either elected or appointed to do just that. New York can make any law that complies with the Constitution regarding guns. They cannot make a law that conflicts with the rights guaranteed in the Constitution and Bill of Rights about guns. The Supreme Court of the United States is the ultimate judge on what laws or actions by government entities are Constitutional. The members of the SCOTUS are appointed by a president elected by citizens of the United States. "Republicans", Democrats or non-party people do not control by themselves any of the processes.

The state of New York’s people voted for that gun bill years ago. Doesn’t seem right that the Supreme Court thinks states can handle some issues but not others especially those that were made laws by people voting for it.

They cannot make a law that conflicts with the rights guaranteed in the Constitution and Bill of Rights about guns. They could not make a law requiring cognitive tests thresholds for voting either, for example.

So how bout really sticking to the constitution about the second amendment and allow the same type of guns that were available when it was written to be carried. Not our modern guns that are capable of clearing out a classroom or church with one clip? I’m not anti gun, I own plenty I just don’t see the need to have lunatics walking around with them. And it still seems strange that the court only believes that some issues should be left to the states.

Nowhere does it say "these guns only". Laws don't stop people from doing things. When it comes to schools, with the crazies today - which I attribute to culture, social media and parenting - we should EXPECT something to happen and plan for it. I don't know what that looks like entirely, but harden schools to shooter's entry and armed personnel would probably be part of it. You know, I think if the US Congress had enacted a law codifying abortion, the SCOTUS may have allowed that. But they did not which means states can make their own laws absent federal laws restricting them. The court didn't say there could not be a federal law, but absent one it is the states right to make their own. Hence, California can have abortion anytime and Mississippi none.

I’m a firm believer in arming certain staff at every school. And even in churches. I just don’t like the hypocrisy of meddling in one issue and not another.

Upholding the constitution is not meddling. It is necessary.

It’s a shame that our 45th president doesn’t agree with you.

Doesn't matter. He is no longer President.
