There are all sorts of reasons women make the difficult choice to terminate. I’ve known many women who have done so, friends and family. None of them made the decision lightly. No one does.
One of them is my own mom. She and my dad got pregnant during college. They were both broke. Had mom been forced to carry, they may not have stayed together, and their lives certainly would have taken a very different course. They wouldn’t have been able to get advanced degrees. My dad wouldn’t have gotten the job he did. They very likely wouldn’t have had either me, or my little brother.
So, that’s two lives “saved” (if you want to think about it that way) by the right to choose, including my own.
These are not stories you often hear, but I am sure there are millions out there just like me. As those of us who care about women’s rights fight to restore abortion access across the country, we should get used to telling them.
Giving women the right to choose works out better for everyone. Really, it does.
