I believe conspiracies happen all the time, but most of them are small, and the larger ones tend to fail and/or get discovered. I do not believe in one Grand Unified Conspiracy Hypothesis wherein one nefarious group controls everything. Nefarious groups tend to compete with each other, and evil people eventually betray one other.
