Gas prices and oil company profits

From an environmental viewpoint, gas should be $35 a gallon.

However, we're not at the point where almost every car is electric, so that would screw over millions of people who can't afford electric cars

Millions of people can be screwed over now, or billions will get screwed over later.

That's not what I'm trying to get at here. What I'm trying to get at, is that the government should increase production and reduce the cost of electric cars so that neither millions nor billions of people get screwed over. We shouldn't make bad stuff more expensive; we should make good stuff cheaper.
