What is it to not meet someone you read about? Look at the tabloids. Grocery stores do not place trade journals or peer notes on the shelf at check out.
I believe most people are happy not meeting who they read about; so they read about them. Alternatively everyone is a physicist, work along physicists; therefore they don't need to read the quarterly notes.
