The profanity and insults in the article are annoying and kind of a shtick, but it hits the high points of what is wrong and infuriating about Sen. Manching without getting too far into the weeds. If I could rephrase in my own words:
Joe Matchstick is a walking, talking smokestack. A cardboard cutout holding the former seat of the viciously racist Sen. Byrd — who ironically was, himself, an embarrassing retrograde outlier bringing up the rear of the Democratic Party for decades. In summation, Joe Munchkin is exactly what you’d expect of a U.S. Senator from West Virginia.
(And this Senator from West Virginia, in part by accident and in part by fatal design of our nation’s rickety Constitutional structure, has been gifted a brief window of virtually limitless power to set the nation’s agenda. He could have set his own narrow interests aside for just one moment or even lean into his innate self-regard and at least secure a whopping pork barrel for West Virginia while passing a package that does at least some good for the nation generally, on bread-and-butter, outstandingly popular kitchen-table Democratic issues like paid family leave and the child tax credit extension. He has chosen instead to dither, whine, play endless telephone tag with the White House, and do absolutely nothing with it.)
And most Americans who aren’t politics junkies will never know who he is.
