In the Family Law lecture, the lecturer STARTED by saying that FIRST COUSINS is NOT incest. (Also not in RELIGION.)

The rule is DIRECT ANCESTORS and Descendants--e.g., grandfather and granddaughter--or LESS THAN 3 DEGREES OF KINSHIP.

1. Me to my mom = 1 degree of kinship

2. My mom to her sister, my aunt = 2 degrees of kinship

3. My mom to her sister (my aunt) to her daughter (my 1st cousin) = THREE degrees of kinship. NOT incest.

Yes, ALL of us were surprised.

That is the same in ALL states.
