This was at Antietam. Officer Russell was moving the 1st 8th Grade volunteers through the plains and up toward the Rebel lines. They had taken positions by a fence set up near a grass patch in the middle of the school, and we had to make it through while contending with artillery. He held out his plastic sword, and we marched. The Rebels gave us hell. They launched fire and cannons all over the place. Boys and girls fell like crazy. Russell was leading us with seemingly no fear. "Come on guys, come on!" yelled his co-officer, his name was Billy or somethin'. Then, suddenly, his head exploded. Blood got splattered all over Russell and us men near him. "Holy shit, that's horrific!" yelled my sister, who was right next to me during the march. Once that happened, a shocked Russell yelled at us, "Charge!" We got out our plastic knife bayonets and charged 'em. The cannons were explodin' everywhere. The carnage was insane. I lost my sis, I didn't know where she was, so I hid. Eventually, a miracle happened, because we somehow overran the Confederates and took their positions. We killed as many as we could. Antietam was hell.
