Short story : some guy in Czechoslovakia tried to leave the country to Austria using a homemade tank but it broke down midway
Long story : A person by the name of Vladimir Benes thought to leave with his family to the West from socialist Czechoslovakia in the 1970s after his request to move to Canada was rejected, however obviously he can't just leave through the border as there were armed guards and barricades preventing anyone from leaving the country, so he came up with a solution of building a homemade breakthrough vehicle in his workshop in Hrusky in Southern Czechoslovakia, the vehicle is based on a Wartburg 311 civilian car and is armoured with overlapping steel plates and is powered by two engines, the turret and gun on the top is fake and is designed to break barbed wires, this vehicle would be known as the Hrusky Tank, however due to secrecy he couldn't test drive the vehicle to find faults so when it was driven out to the border it broke down midway through and was left abandoned, so instead he just made his escape to Austria on his own, and then his family moved abroad 7 years later.
