Up until the 20th century, many people advocated for removing all trade barriers for a tax on natural resources (particularly land) and implementing a citizen's dividend, but alas the great depression and the income tax killed that dream. Now we're stuck with a bloated federal government, a crappy welfare system, a flawed tax system, and the slow erosion of civil liberties.
