The sanctions are predominantly a U.S./European thing, with some Asian allies joining. Putin's making money because oil is an essential commodity, and other countries around the world, like China and India, don't really care that he's butchering Ukrainians. They're happy to continue to buy Russian oil at a discount. These sanctions are hurting Russia's coffers and its warmaking ability, but not stopping it completely.

Meanwhile, the U.S. and the West have frozen hundreds of billions of Russian assets. Russia isn't *richer* because of all this - it's going to enter a deep recession. Nor is Ukraine profiting. It too will enter a deep recession because of the tremendous disruption.

There is some impact on the U.S. economy, but due to low trade volumes with Russia/Ukraine, we're not very economically exposed compared to Europe and the Middle East. As in WWII, we're once again blessed by geography.

But seriously, do actual research.
Putin's making MORE money selling oil, gas, etcetera now than he was before the war. You're paying for both sides of the war. Why is that? Why would we do that?

Supply and Demand | image tagged in supply and demand | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
Who’s “we”? The whole world? Yeah, I would support the whole world boycotting Russia. The war would be over in a week. But only some of the world is doing that because, frankly, only some of the world cares about human rights. It’s better than nothing, but an unaccountable dictator like Putin can flatten cities and financially cripple his own economy unless someone forces him to stop.

Putin’s raking in cash from oil for the same reason American energy companies are raking in cash right now — supply and demand. Global demand for oil is way up from where it was in 2020 (the pandemic low point), while supply hasn’t kept pace.

So, another way to potentially end this war would be if the Saudis opened the floodgates of their production capacity and caused the price of oil to fall through the floor. So far, they haven’t done that.

Of course, by doing that Saudi Arabia would also cripple the U.S. energy industry, by causing fracking wells to become uneconomical and shutter, same as what happened in 2020. State-backed Saudi oil can survive a prolonged period of low oil prices, while “free market” U.S. suppliers can’t.

Maybe we should nationalize our energy industry too, like so many other countries, and treat it like the critical national-security asset that it is?

The global economy is complex! There are no easy answers!

You PERSONAL. Me PERSONALLY are paying for both sides of war without end.
Record breaking inflation is "fueled" by record breaking energy costs caused by fake sanctions.
So if fake sanctions [Putin's making MORE money on natural gas, not less...] are being paid for by European's and American's... (follow along here, this is where it gets interesting...) Europeans and Americans are paying for Russia's war.

oh yeah, let's destroy the US oil industry and use that as an excuse to nationalize the US oil industry, good plan

Right.
That's why the EU is switching over to the Ruble so they can pay twice as much for the same Russian natural gas! Because the sanctions are working so well! [To line Putain's pockets...]

They just switched over from the Euro to the Ruble and paid twice as much for it due to "sanctions creating shortages."

The only one profiting in this war is Russia.
