So I was at Gettysburg. I've told you 'bout that before. I still miss her. *sniffles* Anyway, I'm a gonna tell ya about the Irish Volunteer. We'll call him Paddy for anonymity, this wasn't his real name. He was with me in 1st 8th Grade Volunteer Infantry. I was good friends with him, he was a good fighter. Came over from Ireland just before the war, then he enlisted. Now, he'd gotten shot at Antietam, the Rebs shot him in the arm, pretty gruesome. Thankfully not bad enough for an amputation.
So this was at Gettysburg. I didn't see it happen, though. I was still up on Cemetery Ridge (some ramps in the school) and the Rebs were below, Paddy was somewhere to my left. I assume it happened after my sis was killed. The South threw a pretty heavy artillery round at us, think it killed 90% of the whole 2nd 7th Grade. After we had retreated, and I had cried my heart out for her, one of my other buds came up to me. His name was Richard, again not his real name. He told me that an artillery shell blew up right on Paddy's shoulder. Blew half his head off. Said he looked like Gustavo Fring's death in Breakin' Bad. Very gruesome. I didn't see the body myself, though. We lost a lot of good men at Gettysburg, that's for certain sure.
