Well, Social Security was established in 1935, so let’s keep that one.
However, Medicare wasn’t established until the 1960s, so we can do away with that one. The medical-industrial complex makes enough of a killing as it is that it can figure out how to treat our nation’s seniors at its own cost (Sorry, Trump)
In exchange, let’s extend a Social Security-like benefit to all children ages 0-18. This makes sense in a country where Roe v. Wade will be overturned and millions of babies will be saved!
A fund for education, for starting a business, for purchasing their first home, etc. — that can’t be touched by their parents, and that will be accessible when they reach the age of majority. (Can be accessed earlier upon a showing of financial hardship.)
Immigration? We’re a nation of immigrants, but for the sake of argument, let’s set the immigration level at whatever it was in the 1950s. I honestly have no idea how that compares to today.
Let’s throw in price ceilings for goods supplied by essential industries, like the oil industry, that habitually take advantage of global misfortunes like wars and pandemics to line their own pockets. This will help curb inflation.
In addition to strengthening trade unions, making our nation’s richest pay taxes at the rate they used to, and a fair minimum wage, we now have the ingredients for a 1950s-style economy and population boom.
There! We fixed the American economy in a way that will please both parties! 🇺🇸
